  • Dean apparently forgot some civil rights leaders: "I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."-Coretta Scott King

  • "I see this as a civil rights issue. That means I support gay civil marriage."-Julian Bond "When you talk about the law discriminating, the law granting a privilege here, and a right here and denying it there, that's a civil rights issue. And I can't take that away from anybody."-Joseph Lowery "I've heard the reasons for opposing civil marriage for same-sex couples. Cut through the distractions, and they stink of the same fear, hatred, and intolerance I have known in racism and in bigotry."-Jhn Lewis

  • Dan, You're obviously not an attorney or else you would know that courts have read fundamental rights into our constitution for almost a century. This is done to protect individuals from bigots such as yourself who would deprive the rights of people who they disagree with. It's sad, but Prop 8 is exactly the opposite of what we are taught in law school (fairness, equity, constitutional rights)...Pls vote No on 8. Who know what rights might be taken away next?

  • Marriage is not a "fundamental right" anymore than driving a car is. Just because 4 people in black robes say it doesn't make it so. Just like there is "jury nullification" we are having an electoral nullification, as there should be, when the CASC over steps its bounds and creates law, instead of interpreting it. Marriage is a social contract, pure and simple, between a man and a woman, and the state has every right to regulate it, just as it oversees all other contracts within its jurisdiction. Why is that so difficult to grasp or understand?

  • Dean, you are the man!! I wonder why religious persecution is so accepted in our society. Vote YES on prop 8

    Scott @ 10:01 AM PDT, Oct 29, 2008

  • Well said Lorri! This is the first time in the history of the country that four judges created a fundamental right for a group of people. This is the most novel fundamental right ever. According to constitutional law, Ms. Attorney, fundamental rights are not created by the judiciary. Yes on 8

    Dan @ 10:00 AM PDT, Oct 29, 2008

  • Dean if you check the dictionary civil rights according to the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th Amendments to the Constitution and by other acts of Congress afford equal treatment of all people with respect to the enjoyment of life, liberty... There's no inference that Gays are hi-jacking anyone elses civil rights movmement nor asking for any special treatment or "Rights". Nor is being homosexual a choice. It is disgraceful if members of the the LDS faith or the Knights of Columbus are behind the Yes on 8 ads. I thought they were Christians?

    Joe @ 9:56 AM PDT, Oct 29, 2008

  • Those darn Mormons! Why can't they just keep quiet and let the same-sex activists force their beliefs on our children?

    Dan @ 9:55 AM PDT, Oct 29, 2008

  • Dean, if you are going to preach the union of marriage between a man and a woman, then why aren't you fighting to stop the divorce rate that is continually growing. Don't you see that half the straight marriages don't even work. It's part becuase people like you are putting fear into people causing them to marry the opposite sex, when they will never be happy doing that. You are also causing the gay community to jump into marriage becuase this may be their last chance. History is about change. So let it happen!! NO on 8

    Beth @ 9:54 AM PDT, Oct 29, 2008

  • This is crazy. Just let them get married. If they're happy, why can't we be happy for them? This is just madness. I am a straight female, but I mean, c'mon! It's their personal preferance and we don't have to interfere with that. Just leave them alone.
