The 2nd District will need someone who understands how to spur economic development that produces jobs and improves the quality of life for its citizens. The incoming supervisor will also need to address very difficult issues involving public safety, health, foster care, transportation, etc . It makes sense to select Mark Ridley-Thomas, given his experience and the fact that almost every group ranging from business to labor supports him. He has already the relationships and track record that makes him the right choice.

You are a Windfall of ignorance. Our victimhood is your attempts to use this forum to inject your hate venom. Your ignorance are assumptions that are no longer true. What does sub-Sahara Africa has to do with this? The current number of residents in each district has approximately 2,000,000 residents. Like the other districts, residents of the 2nd Supervisorial District come from all over the planet. You sound like an old dinosaur trapped in a tarpit of ignorance. Now, back to the issue, because of the problems with crime, I will vote for Parks and hope that he supports the sheriff.

MARK RIDLEY-THOMAS HAS REPRESENTED THE COMMUNITY WELL AND THAT IS WHY SO MANY SUPPORT HIS CANDIDACY. I have witnessed firsthand the Ridley-Thomas leadership & his ability to get things done. He listens, but has the intelligence & intellect to make positive changes for the communities he serves. Because he is transparent & involves the community, he understands that he needs to be accountable for his actions and decisions. I am not one aligned with labor & have seen Ridley-Thomas stand for what is best. Ridley-Thomas gets it & will do a great job.

What a laugh...Mike Spence talks about Ridley-Thomas getting money from the Unions and calling them special interest...hate to break it to you Mr Spence, but unions are almost unanimously made up of the little guys and GOP spin trying to convice us that Unions are evil is a load of BS, since Corporations and Monied Interest who unanimously support Republicans are the most currupt kind of "Special Interest", I find it ironic the Republican in this discussion is talking about the influence of "Special Interest" money when Republicans have made the abuse of Special Interest money a Science...

Does it make ANY difference? The reality of L.A. is these guys and gals only want 1: development - LOTS of development for Party Faithful. 2: Spread the money around (see 1) and NEVER hold any one accountable 3: Gangs? Yes, gangs are GOOD - they keep the sheep frightened and NOT thinking about the rotten politicians 4: Schools? The Unions are our biggest campaign supports - what DON'T you understand? Now go and re-elect ALL of them because you can put 1 plus 1 together and get to reality.

mark ridley-thomas would be a better choice since bernard parks failed miserably @ being chief of police especially during the rampart scandal & after leaving lapd just washed his hands of the whole situation. I guess that there is a silent blue line. where is the integrity?perhaps it was lost during his tenure or maybe prior to his tenure as chief.

$4million in contributions from special interests groups and Ridley Thomas doesn't owe anything, ridiculous. This guy is so debt for all the contributions that he has received, he will be a puppet. Mr. Parks is fiscally responsible and is more in touch with what is really going on with Los Angeles than a Union appointed lackey.

Anyone would be be better than Bernard Parks
Derek @ 11:26 PM PDT, May 28, 2008
Ridley-Thomas will not represent the community. He is bought and paid for. $4,000,000 is alot of money for someone to accept and still have an independent thought. That's to much money for him to tell his friends(SPECIAL INTEREST) NO!!

One socialist hack or another, what's the difference? When "the community" embraces capitalism and takes advantage of the free market opportunities that are all around them, they'll make progress. Until then, you'll have one socialist "messiah" followed by another. While you're enthrawed in your victimhood, remember, there are about 800 million people in sub-Sahara Africa that would trade places with you in ten seconds or less if they could get a visa even if it came with the caveat that they could never receive a dime from the government.
