You liberals and other enablers of illegallity just don't get it. Americans want the laws enforced on others just like it is on them. California is a lawless, corrupt, and bankrupt State--and is it any wonder, lawlessness and corruption often are the reasons for BANKRUPTCY.

Getting licenses does not make the illegal aliens any better drivers, but it does make it easier for them to get other fraudulent documents and does make it easier for them to vote illegally! That is what Tomas wants - he wants to subvert the American system of government!

I wholeheartedly agree with Mark Krikorian. National security and public safety trumps any desire of the ethno-centric illegal alien lobby to demand de facto legitimization to illegal immigrants. There are still entire industries of workers that use false identifications and have access to sensitive areas in airports (yes, even after the infamous Elvira Arellano debacle), aircraft etc. It's time to base immigration policy on the safety, health and welfare of American citizens and LEGAL residents. YA ES HORA.

Amazing that at last something that resembles a debate on illegal immigration appears in this paper. It's pretty strange that no one is posting all the virtues of illegal aliens and how well they will drive or how much insurance they would soon have. Gil Cedillo, are you out there? Que paso, no quieres platicar en ingles? People who do the minimum to pay for the infrastructure that supports our society should be the last ones complaining about not being able to utilize that same infrastructure (let me draw you a diagram - illegal aliens and the greedy people who employ them).

I thought that the insurance industry promised us 20 years ago that if they got their way in the state legislature that no one would go without a minimum amount of auto insurance. What happened with that? So, maybe Steve Poizner would take five minutes from his busy day to explain to me why I pay a substantial sum, but so many others pay NOTHING.

People who illegally cross our borders are outlaws, regardless of their purpose for invading. Rewarding illegal behavior will only result in more illegal aliens breaking into our country (as the last seven amnesties have proven). They do not deserve any benefits reserved for Americans and other Legal residents. In fact, the US should adopt policies employed by Mexico for dealing with illegal immigrants. In Mexico, they do not reward illegals with in-state tuition, driver's licenses and other foolishness. In Mexico, the government simply jails illegals and deports them ASAP!

Do we want more unlicensed drivers? No, that is what we have jails for. If you drive without a license, registration and proof of insurance, your car gets impounded and you go to jail. If your an illegal alien, your a lawbreaker and drive, you broke yet another law including the one you broke coming here illegally. How many more laws to these people have to break, how many "the finger" we have to receive before we say "enough". I think that 74% of Californians said "enough" many times. We don't reward lawlessness period!

Illegals only deserve to get a ride back to where they came from, if they want ID's first learn english and go join the military to fight as our brave soldiers, then you get your citizenship/ID, otherwise, go back home.

When I go abroad I use an international drivers license and am insured by my carrier here in th USA. Illegals can do the same.
