2) Molina wanting us to spend an extra $7 million just to let the voters decide, instead of her, belies her claim about saving money. And re: the subway taking 30 years to complete: the Expo Line would have been done by now if not for opposition from westside HOA's fearing "those people" will arrive by mass transit, and from Molina and Antonovich's regional pettiness. NOT starting won't get it done any faster -- IF we had earlier, we'd have had fed money and wouldn't need to find money now at a time when no one wants to pay more taxes.

Michael e at 1:01 is right: meetings were held all over the region at great cost and effort by MTA staff -- how many more would Molina want? She wants to kill the westside/miracle Mile subway "to the sea" at all costs so is claiming "back room deals." (After all these years working with Zev, to pretend to be "left out" is a pathetic ploy.) The Hollywood/Miracle Mile/Westside/Santa Monica corridor has mostly drive-thru traffic in rush hour, from ALL cities around the region. My Beverly Hills bldg is 80% commuter from Covina to Valencia, south etc. No other area suffers so much from outside commuters who create smog, gridlock.

Supervisor Molina is either ignorant in regards to the process used to develop the list of projects set to receive funding or is deliberately miss-representing the facts. The list of transit projects set to receive funding (pending the passage of the initiative) was developed as part of Metro's Long Range Plan. The entire county had ample opportunities to provide relevant feedback regarding the projects listed within that Plan during well-publicized public meetings. Given Supervisor Molina sits on Metro's Board of Directors, she should be quite familiar with the process.

Looks like Zev and Gloria are at it again, playing their respective roles of John and Blanche Bickerson. The end "result" may be more tens of thousands of Eastsiders stuck in traffic every weekday going to and from their jobs at the Water Garden, Westwood, Century City, Beverly Hills and the Miracle Mile.

I'm glad someone is speaking out against this absurd idea. A thirty-year tax is ridiculous. Their is no guarantee that the money will be spent on the proposed projects. The MTA has never done anything on time or on budget. When their Westside subway goes horrendously over the budget, they're going to raid the funding for the rest of the county.
kristin @ 11:09 AM PDT, Aug 14, 2008
The irony to her whole piece is that her Eastside Corridor extension that is being rammed down everyone's throat to go on the ill concieved 60 freeway corridor was executed in the same backroom dealings that she's supposedly is ashamed of. If she's going to stand up for something, she should at least admit to that.
Jerard @ 10:18 AM PDT, Aug 14, 2008
It is interesting to note that one of her core arguments is fundamentally wrong. She notes the list of projects was developed behind closed doors without public input when in reality the list of projects was developed as part of Metro's Long Range Plan, which underwent significant public involvement. These projects were developed by experienced transportation planners knowing that to receive federal matching funds they would need to meet certain performance goals for projects, s the projects that ultimately made the list reflect the most effective uses of the public's money (i.e., the most bang for the buck).

It is about time you share the other sides facts! Thank you Gloria Molina! I agree-and will vote AGAINST the tax. I am tired of Antonio and the City of LA bullying others on this tax.

The biggest lie in this absurd diatribe is the last one: "Supervisor Gloria Molina represents Los Angeles County's 1st District."
She speaks for nobody but herself.
Reba @ 10:21 PM PDT, Aug 13, 2008
Regional consensus? Is Gloria Molina serious? I've looked at the plan and honestly can't see why everyone in every part of the county won't jump at this opportunity to address our traffic and expand our public transportation system.
