This guy is so biased he does conservatives a disservice. Is it impossible to get an honest conservative? Can't the LA Times post a syndicated column from David Brooks?

Goldberg's history is a bit dishonest, although more by omission; the bottom line for all the thinkers he mentions is that democracy is IMPOSSIBLE in a context of rampant greed and individualism. In other words, this is NOT about a schism between socialism/democracy. It's about the totalitarian social conditions that are the inevitable consequence of letting the market run wild. Frankly no one is getting ahead right now. No one's living circumstances are improving. And Obama would say that this is a catastrophe for American democracy, partly because it establishes a moral climate of "fear."

If anyone heard the whole interview, Obama said it was TOO LATE for the court to do anything and he wants to stage this change legislatively.
Brian Johnson @ 9:38 AM PDT, Oct 29, 2008
Jim H,
The author does not state that Obama currently wants the courts to get involved in redistribution of wealth. Obama states (and this author simply credits) that he thinks it's something that could and should have been done but now is not the time. Calling someone stupid is not a well played defense.

cont..How do you think its going to look to the rest of the world when we elect a man who dosnt salut our US flag, whos wife thinks of it as a symbol of oppression, who would like to change our national anthem, who has a history of burning the same flag US that he will be working under & must take an oath to defend? How will that look?

Sad to see, Jonah. I don't have to go into how you have written an article which is in some parts disingenuous, and in others just illogical and stupid, because plenty of commenters have done so already. How did you manage to keep your job?

"97. Connor, There is no social mobility in a socialist government." In fact, the USA has less social mobility than the alleged socialist governments of Western Europe. http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/pressAndInformationOffice/newsAndEvents/archives/2005/LSE_SuttonTrust_report.htm
(Not that it's even that relevant, since Obama doesn't propose anything even close to their systems, just a modest tax increase on the rich...)

Also, as much as I hate to bring up an old talking point (not really), remember that all of Europe would be under Nazi rule if it wasn't for the capitalist society of the US. Socialism is not all bad, and there are good things that can be incorporated, but the US society has to remain a fundamentally capitalist society or it loses its maneuverability and strength in TRULY trying times... not this pathetic excuse for a "trying time."

And to gilles_France that lists all these great nations that are SOOOO happy with their full or semi-socialized governments - there is a reason why America has risen to be the strongest nation in the world and it has to do with the independent spirit of its people. American's will never be happy with their government until it gets out of their way. Unfortunately only half the country is willing to stand on it's own feet so maybe soon we will be just like the great and mighty country of Switzerland.
