  • If your premise is that stupid people don't vote and shouldn't vote, then you totally contradict yourself when you note that "George Strait fans already vote." Considering that GW Bush - without doubt the worst and most disastrous President in history - was "elected" twice, there is little doubt that more than enough idiots are currently registered to vote. If the majority of currently unregistered voters would turn out against the atrocity that is McCain/Palin, then that makes them smarter and better voters than you, Mr. Stein.

  • Hmm. I guess folks just won't comment either.

  • Joel is right. But at this point, I would say to any undecided voters out there – please, don't vote. If you don't have an opinion by now, then don't try to express one. If the past eight years haven't left any kind of impression on you, then please, stay away from the voting boooth. Sit this one out.

  • Forget about the candidates , the measures are the reason I vote for. There are very critical ones on these ballet.

  • If Joel Stein didn't feel it important to vote then how about we allow citizenship to be transferrable...Joel Stein can give his "right to vote" to someone who actually seeks to exercise a right that his privileged status allows him not to bother with

  • If Joel Stein didn't feel it important to vote as a form of engaging or pushing for change then why even bother writing "op-ed" pieces? The fact is when constituency groups register AND vote they get heard or at the very least pandered to...As a Chicano I don't have the luxury of white privilege and class privilege of Joel Stein to NOT vote...his ability to feed his kids, get access to health care, and equal opportunity for quality schools and financial aid for college are not at directly threatened by state referenda such as Prop 187, Prop 209, or Prop 227. Joel Stein...your piece is best described in one word...idiocy

  • Wrong. Each vote matters, and our republic works better when voter turnout is high. Your voter registration is currency -- valid as legal tender only once each election. If you don't vote, your currency is wasted. Don't expect your candidates of choice to win each time. But by exercising your vote, your candidates are more likely to win, and your power (genuine or perceived) is greater.

  • There's always a write in vote. Ron Paul is actually the only person that ran that is qualified to make a change in the structure we call a government. So why not write him in..? Not voting just states that your lame and without responsibility. Also, if you don't vote you give up your right to complain. We already have to many people that aren't up to speed with what it will take to have great leadership. Obama's to early with his aspirations and McCain is probably past his era of effectiveness. Anyone that is keen on voting should find out how to vote on a non two party basis. It can be done.

  • Only if you show up to vote on local initiatives and candidates while leaving the choice for President empty are you sending any kind of message about dissatisfaction with the choices offered for President. If you don't bother to vote at all you are saying nothing and no one will hear you or care.
