Im sick of the gays!!!! I guess all you have to do is complain until you get your way..Thats why this country is going down the toilet..When gays are telling what needs to be done..Gays are completely USELESS!!!

Mr. Liu,
I find little/no support for your claim that separately defining marriage and civil unions in any way diminishes the latter. As you wrote it, these would suggest that because I call a cow a "cow" rather than a "horse", somehow the cow is undervalued. Marriage is and has always been between a man and a woman. "Civil unions" or "domestic partnerships" have in recent years become the PC/creative nomenclature for homosexual partnerships. By suggesting that such partnerships lack legitimacy, you suggest that marriage is special and substitutes are but counterfeit attempts at capturing what heterosexual partnerships have created.

What will be next... make the teachings of Churches criminal. I follow the laws govern by GOD and I adhere to laws of goverment. If homosexual marriage is made legal then my Church would be persicuted for not allowing homosexual marriage. I can see a day where the freedoms of Churches will be dictated by Goverment. A reversal of our Constitution in whole.

John,
Freedom from cruel and unusual punishment is NOT a fundamental right?

In a time when Americans are losing their jobs and homes, our educational systems are struggling for funding, it is deplorable to spend $70M+ to revise the state constitution to specifically remove rights from a minority group. I certainly do not fault donating money to preserve and defend your existing civil rights (or to protect those of a minority group in general). What baffles me is understanding what drives people to donate a large portion of their personal savings to support removing SOMEONE ELSE'S civil rights. $70M is a lot of money that could've helped people in real need. Instead we wasted it to write discrimination into our laws.

To all you "YES" people - Not one of you has stated an intelligent, independent, thought-out point about how same-sex marriage would somehow diminish your marriage or cause the end of the world. The Constitution is meant to protect the minority from the majority when too many are like you Mario. Your gloating over the apparent passage of Prop 8 demonstrates the people we have to overcome. I don't care if you tolerate me or not anymore. I didn't get to vote on your right to marry, you shouldn't have the right to vote to take away mine.

There's nothing wrong with separate, but equal. We do it every day when we walk into a public restroom. The majority has voted - get over it.

Isn't there a Bill of Rights associated with the California Constitution the prevents discrimination of this sort? This seems like a Civil Rights issue hence the measure should be deemed unconstitutional.

The majority of comments I read continue to compare the fight of being a black American with gay rights. Once again, it is not the same. I can never change the color of my skin nor do I wish to either. However, I do believe being gay is a choice and a chosen lifestyle. I am in agreement with proposition 8, I don't want my children to be forced to be exposed to a homosexual lifestyle unless I chose to do so, this is my right. Moreover, I am glad that California has spoken and chosen to take a stance, and I don't believe that proposition 8 will be overturn. I personally pray that Liberty will be able to get involved in this lawsuit.
