How about a defoliation campaign on the poppy fields? Not likely since the money (Heroin) pipeline goes all the way to the top in Afganistan and probably very high up the food chain in the U. S.

Actually the matter should try to understood in broad spectrum. There is no military soulution to any problem and perhaphs the process of dialogues, jirgas and talks are the influential tools in both the Afghan and Pakistan Tribal Areas. Dealing in context of open business will be much better than to bombed from air or fired from drone attack??

Before making any comment, one must go through Afghan history culture, and their social setup.Engage in talks and their Jirga system.[assembly of elders].Make friends, not enemes.Involving India will have different dynamics.more war in the region.Try to understand problems of the area and help build pakistan special rapid mobile forces to fight terror as their countryis suffering.

If Obama is smart he will end our engagement in Afghanistan without delay. What is our goal there? Pacify the country, rather the countless tribes there? Others have tried it. Build a Democracy? Defeat the Taliban? Six years ago we were almost there before Bush lost interest. Kill or capture bin Laden? We seem to have lost track of him. What's in it for us?
Get out!

Pakistan's Ace folds against a pair of deuces; the U.S. may require regime change in Pakistan to confront the terrorists in the tribal regions, and India may require the same.

Well yeah! Because you can not win a war when you don't know who's the enemy. It's alot easier to see and kill another soldier apart from a civilian looking terrorist.
