  • No, of course being gay is not a 'choice.' At the same time, being ignorant and hate filled while misrepresenting science and knowledge is a choice being made by Palin. What I find deeply troubling is that every time someone like Palin restarts this failed discussion, the media pick it up as...well...a discussion rather than simply documenting the falsehoods being presented. No, being gay is not a 'choice' and each time another publicity seeking figure wants to re-visit he - or she - should simply be dismissed. Anything else simply serves to reinforce and provide a semblance of very false credibility.

  • Then again, what she might be saying with "happens to have made a choice that isn't a choice that I have made," is that her friend decided to be open with who she is, where Palin has decided not to. It can be read in so many ways :)

  • You have a right to pretend but not to be what you are not.

  • Frank, most americans have come to accept that Palin is an idiot. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the country and global ecomony is going down the drain. Gay rights are not a top priority right now.

  • A superb piece of writing. Thank you for stating the obvious in a scholarly and insightful way. It's more than time to move beyond the ploy of using religion to deny gay people their rights. We can no longer accept hatred in the guise of religion or politics.

  • Palin is correct and Mr Frank is wrong. What is really interesting is how little tolerance gays have for those who disagree with them.

  • I recall Ellen DeGeneris once talking in a TV interview about facing discrimination "just because of whom I choose to love." I think she was trying to affirm the right of gays to be gay. Just to show that the language of choice and freedom is tricky!

  • I think gays have a right just like all of us do. If USA is a free country, then we're all aloud to live the way we please.
