Election democracy
Do we need more or less direct democracy in elections?
1.
Micheal, since I'm not a democrat, I'm sure that I would fundamentally dissagree with you on many issues, but not this one. You're right on, and if this political bog in which the dems now find themselves and for which they can blame only themselves (i.e. a touchey-feely, big-brother system destined to contradict the will of the people) comes back to bite them in the butt, so much the better!
2. Case in Point: Look at the Texas Two-Step that took place on March 4, the results of which were finally made final today. Some caucuses were so chaotic on March 4, that they had to have a "re-do" this past week-end. Clinton won the popular vote rather handily in Texas, but the state actually awarded more "pledged" delegates to Obama. Do those who cannot physically stand for four or more hours have their votes discounted? For some in the Texas Two-Step, it was one person, one vote. For others more physically able to withstand these often very chaotic caucuses, it was one person, two votes.
3. If the Democrats can't even run a nomination process how can they run a national health care system ?
4. We need a lot more direct democracy to let the citizens decide how the country should be run and how to address serious issues our elected idiots will not adress or are simply afraid to address....or do not abide with the will of the citizens. With all of the modern technology this is now easierto do. We no longer have democracy in this country other then to elect a bunch of facist dictators to office. We should also start to think about a new constitution and have a parliamentary system like most other advanced countries.
5. Mikey forgot another important factor! In those who do vote ignorance is rampart. Our system is based primarily on emotion and the American desire to win at all costs. Republicans and Democrats alike pull the lever based on the party of the nominees andth Idependents pull the lever based on the best slogans and latest scandal they have heard.
6. Hopefully this election will wake up the rank and file Democrats to the fact that the no-longer-Democratic Party couldn't care less about them, and they will quit supporting this hopelessly corrupt institution.
