1. Pat Morrison does not dig deep enough in writing this column. Sign companies often own the very building the billboards sit on, thereby allowing them to avoid paying rent to use the air space above. Billboard companies are in the commercial real estate market, big time. Look at the brick two story building on Santa Monica Blvd. and Doheny. Vacant for over fifteen years. Yes, the building is owned by the bill board company. Billboard companies make so much revenue they can not only afford to be in the real estate market they can leave the buildings they own vacant.
