  • Why is the LATIMES running with this bull. Most of my family and friends are Catholic and hispanic...not one is voting for Obama. They do however keep their preference for McCain silent because they don't want to be accused of beinig racist. In the end, Obama's support for infantcide of babies of failed late term abortions is enough for a Catholic to vote against Obama. To the faithful, support a candidate with this position is a one way ticket to hell. Maybe the LAtimes means people who were raised Catholic but as adults have moved away from it.

  • I remember the days when women would get abortions illegally and how some would die from butcher doctors and unsanitary conditions.it. Illegalizing abortion will never stop abortions from happening. The law protects women from back-room abortions that put them at risk. No one condones abortion but it is better than an illegal abortion. Also, the Catholic vote is what caused Kerry to lose in Ohio over this abortion issue. Wise up. C

  • It is premature to identify the "Catholic vote" as a voting block. Catholics vote the same as the general population. Rutten's projection of 60% of Catholics voting Democratic is not relevant unless there is a large % gap between the Catholic vote and the general pop. Moreover, to say that the Catholic vote is a voting block as a result of demographic shifts is disingenuous since the voting block Ratten suggests would occur as a result of the liberal Latino vote and not because of any Catholic theology. The bottom line is that there is not a political party that represents serious Catholic's political values.

  • I am a Catholic supporting Obama. Obama has stated that he is against abortion, but certainly for the right of women to make that choice. I am in agreement. I see many Catholics finally understanding that they can make their own decision on voting, particularly since the Church has clearly lost much of its credibility with the wide misuse of clerical power in sexual abuse of children throughout its huge organization. If you are willing to take women's choice away simply because they may err in their choice, why not remove men's genitals since they so often commit adultery? Silly idea, isn't it?

  • I am a progressive Catholic, a weekly mass attendee and active in many church-related programs and services. Our Catholic commitment to respect life applies to every aspect of human and other life forms including the environment. As Pope Paul VI said "If you want peace, work for justice." Because Barack Obama and Joe Biden respect life, work for justice and lead us toward global peace and prosperity, I strongly support them as president and vice-president of America and leaders of the free world. I am a proud and committed Catholic Democrat. Deo Gracias!

  • Catholics who vote for the baby killing agnostic Democrats will have to answer to GOD. No one can fool him.

  • I am a (Republican) Catholic and I have crossed over and voted for Democrats, just not this one. When a man like Obama can go to a church for 20 years and listen to a preacher insult whites, Jews, and God...I have no time in my life for that activity. He doesn't have a clue about what he is doing...ask Bill Clinton. It is all over the news. He can sell dirt to a princess, but he can't sell me on a vote. Sorry America, Obama is just wrong.

  • The news tonight had another of Bill Ayers books... dedicated to Sirhan Sirhan... so Obamas's friends are sympathetic to the man who killed our Catholic President??? In a million years I would not cast a vote for a man who has friends like that!

  • The Catholic Church has said the War in Iraq is an unjust war. The Catholic Church is against the Death Penalty. The Catholic Church does not permit Divorce. The Catholic Church does not permit and does not recognize re-marriage after a divorce. The Catholic Church does not allow abortion. If you disagree with any of the above, you cannot be in Communion with the Church.

  • I am 45 and an active participating "cradle Catholic". I do not believe those that practice the doctrine of the Catholic Church would ever vote for someone who believes in abortion-Democrat or Republican. I don't vote for a party, I vote my beliefs. Obama is not it. He scares the hell out of me.
