Unfortunately, we are not in the early stages of our nation's development where the person with the second most votes became V.P. However,it is obvious by Ms. Palin's remarks to a question by a 3rd grader indicates that she still has not read the Constitution. To vote for John McCain is to place the most unqualified person one heartbeat away from the Presidency would place the whole nation at peril. Oh, by the way what is Mr. and Mrs. Palin's relationship with the Alaska First Terrorists?

What a great observation. When we all began to realize how unqualified Palin is to become VP and potentially President, I asked my friends, why don't we have the power to elect a VP? The Presidential candidate gets to make the decision all on his own and yet if he dies, we get stuck with the person he chose, qualified or not. To me, that is not fair!

It is alredy hard enough to get anything done in Washington. Executive in-fighting would exacerbate that. And what about the rare tie vote in the Senate.
And as bad as it is to think that, it seems like it could great a big political motive for assination.
Bad idea.
If we want reform how about direct national elections?

It is a quaint idea. If the role of the VP is usually worth "a bucket of warm spit" when it's within the winning party; when outside, the analogy would not be printable in a family newspaper.

I like Palin.

Palin represents the intelligence of the republican party.

Remember. Palin is not running for President, McCain is. Palin though, is as qualified as Bill Clinton was, experience wise, BOTH WERE GOVERNORS WHO RAN STATES BEFORE BEING ELECTED. ALL THIS crap about her not being qualified is bull.

An unsplit ticket in California is a brilliant idea that might help us unfossilize the two party system. It doubles the chance that Presidential candidates will campaign in California. We haven't seen much of either Senator except for fundraising.
I'd like to hear Professor Amar's opinion on a unicameral legislature for California.

Our whole presidential election process is far from what the founders intended and what was done in the first couple of elections.

Why not go all the way and make the loosing presidential candidate the VP.
