Letters: The GOP’s sudden conversion
Re “House leader seeks to reframe GOP agenda,” and “GOP eases stance on immigration,” Feb. 6
If the average American family has access to good infrastructure and affordable medical care, education and housing, their lives will improve dramatically. If House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is serious about helping, he will stop his implacable opposition to Obamacare and infrastructure improvements and end Republicans’ efforts to gut Medicare and Social Security to fund tax breaks.
Apply conservative principles to solve the problems, and seek common ground with the Democrats. Don’t just spout bromides in the service of tired policies.

Who will ask Cantor and other leading Republicans where all this concern for immigration reform and improving the lives of working Americans was before election day? The dishonesty of Cantor’s sudden conversion is transparent.
I doubt that I’m the only one who doesn’t believe that Cantor, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) would be singing a totally different tune if Obama hadn’t been reelected. I’m hoping some reporter will call them out.
