Letters: 102 and still serving veterans

Re “Still serving,” April 30

What a well-deserved profile of Bea Abrams Cohen, still selflessly devoting her time and her love, at age 102, to veterans’ causes.

Doing the right thing for her country and those who defend it is more than a good deed or an act of human kindness, as you defined “mitzvah.” This beautiful Jewish word more traditionally means “commandment,” and some translate it as “connection.” It is clear that Cohen does what she does out of the best sense of duty, modeling correct priorities and thereby constantly strengthening her connections to those around her and to the United States, her home country since 1920.

Bea, what an example you’ve set. You are a true mensch.
