Re “N.C. passes marriage law,” May 9

We may not like what our neighbors say or do, but as long as it’s not hurting us, we accept it so we can live together peacefully. Accepting gay marriage is much the same.

Denying a group of people the simple pleasure of marriage, which most people take for granted — and all because their lifestyle is different — is not only homophobic but asinine. Allowing same-sex couples to marry isn’t going to threaten or ruin the sanction of heterosexual marriage. All these folks want is equality. What’s so wrong with that?

Our country is split: Vice President Joe Biden, President Obama and the liberal elite are comfortable with homosexual marriage, but the people of North Carolina claim tradition holds that marriage is only for a man and a woman.

What does God say? His answer is clear. For the nonreligious, what do Charles Darwin and nature say? Their answer is also very clear: There could be no propagation of the species if nature were homosexual. Case closed.

In the wake of the North Carolina vote, I think that we can distill the same-sex marriage issue into one sentence: We used to hate homosexuals because they were wildly promiscuous; now that they want to settle down and get married, we hate them even more.
