Letters: Ban booze ads

Share

Re “Safety board calls for lower DUI threshold,” May 15

If we ever want to get serious about dealing with drunk driving, we have to consider not allowing alcoholic beverages to be advertised. Advertising works, plain and simple. It seems unfair to punish the public by lowering the blood alcohol limit when people are bombarded with cleverly constructed and effective commercials. We tried Prohibition, which didn’t work, but eliminating advertising would be more effective in the long run than sending more people to jail.
