Mukasey has Bush’s back

Re “Justice acts to control tapes probe,” Dec. 15

I’m shocked that the new attorney general, Michael B. Mukasey, has shown himself to be just another Bush apparatchik by denying congressional committees information. It would appear that the Justice Department was being subjected to political pressure, Mukasey said, if it gives Congress any information. And, even though Congress has oversight responsibilities, its investigation would interfere with the CIA and Justice Department’s investigations of themselves.

Apparently they can do a wonderful job of holding themselves accountable without any help from Congress, a special prosecutor or the courts, thank you, carrying on a fine Bush administration tradition. But Mukasey did appreciate their interest. And they’ll get on that investigation, um, right away. Oh, and ignore that man behind the curtain.
