Francesco Schettino is a Dickensian character who captained the Costa Concordia cruise ship; he is accused of overriding the ship's auto-cruise computer to show off a closer coastal view to passengers. The ship ran aground, at least 30 people died in the shipwreck, and the tabloids began calling Schettino "Captain Coward." He made it to a lifeboat while passengers were still aboard the ship, and his sniveling excuses to Italian officials whipped around the world. He stands accused of manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning a ship before his passengers were evacuated.
