  • The LAT still misses the point: Kozinski's collection of ribbald humor, while off-color, was not "porn". The end.

  • (. . . cont'd) The corrollary for gay men might be a preference for man-on-man, rather than heterosexual stuff, but does that mean gay men are heterophobic? I don't think so. Personally, I hate all porn, I think it's corrosive, promotes objectification, introduces intrusive/stupid cliches/standards into our sex lives with real people, and can be demoralizing (particularly to neglected partners of porn users), but the point you seem to want to make is nonsensical.

  • matt: I get your observation that mainstream porn allows for female sexual fluidity but not male sexual fluidity, but your contention that porn is thus oppressive to gay men is a stretch: isn't there porn (for gay men) showing gay men? There's girl-on-girl porn b/c that's what a lot of (male) viewers like. (cont'd. . . )

  • I'm sorry to see a debate over a judge's impartiality hijacked by mind-numbingly irrelevant palaver about sexual orientation-politics. The saddest part is that people who presumably feel marginalized by society have no empathy for another marginalized minority. If those poor souls who feel so oppressed by "the bisexual double-standard" ever find themselves in legal trouble over the expression of their sexuality, perhaps they will then come to appreciate judicial impartiality.

  • What kind of joke is this for a discussion? The L.A. Times can't approve more than five comments per night?

  • contionued... Marquis de Sade who spent most of his life in prison for his pornographic writings and 200 years later nobody remembers the judges but "Justine ou les malheurs de la vertu" is a must read in the Ist year of college philosophy classes by 18 year old student I also mentioned this judges dilemma go with the flow and sentence this guy and later (maybe) be written off as an idiot in history classes or against the flow and be decried and insulted by the "vox populi". I ended by writing if I were in his shoes I would recuse myself and to my surprise not a week later he was found to own some mild pornography. Mind boggles!

  • I don't think there are double standards in the porn industry as it is market dependent, porn is also subjective just like any other forms of art and entertainment. I remember writing a comment when this pornographer was to stand trial for obscenity and face, this judge (Koz). The pornographer mentioned Marcel Duchamp a surrealist known for his questioning "what is art?", in my comment I wrote he should have mentioned the Marquis de Sade Part I

  • I think Mr. Stagilano (if thats his real name) should recluse himself from writing editiorals about something he wants america to buy...his porn movies and entertainment. The point that we want from people who are in positions of leadership is trust...can we trust them, are they liars. 99.99% of the people in power are indeed liars and unable to conduct themselves with honor. Kozinski's sexual adventures are about our ability to trust......I don't care how he conducts himself in the privacy of his bedroom, but as a judge, his public personal actions must be held to a higher standard.

  • Barry.... Kid...Law Professor...Square...John is spanking you up and down the street...You are being annihilated, emasculated and paraded in the streets thus embarrassing your students and school...When are you going to make a crushing point? You Sir, are a lame! An overeducated nerd perchance? Please answer us this: What kind of erotic imagery do you favor? Have you ever relieved yourself to one of John's or his associate's films? If you answer No, you are lying or just totally asexual... I like your command of the law maybe you are debating because you seek John's patronage... Nothing to do with EA or John-

  • Perhaps John Stagliano's "defend our porn" notion should be more honestly referred to as "defend our double standard". That's because the bisexual double standard lies at the heart of porn. This double standard says that female bisexuality is accerptable in the mainstream whereas male bisexuality isn't. I can't stress enough the importance of this double standard to the porn industry. If you're interested in bringing down porn, one way of doing it is to challenge its double standard on the basis of the harm it does to gay and bisexual men.
