Clintons made more than $109 million since 2000

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign releases tax returns for the couple; it also contends that they paid more than the average share of taxes for people with that kind of income.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and former President Bill Clinton reported more than $109 million in gross income since 2000, the Clinton presidential campaign announced this afternoon.

Of that amount, the Clintons have more than $57 million in after-tax earnings and paid more than $33 million in federal taxes, the campaign said. It released tax returns from 2000 to 2006 and highlights for 2007.

The Clintons have now made public 30 years of tax returns, a record matched by few people in public service,” campaign spokesman Jay Carson said in a prepared statement. “None of Hillary Clinton’s presidential opponents have revealed anything close to this amount of personal financial information.”

According to the campaign, the Clintons paid taxes and made charitable donations at a higher rate than taxpayers at their income level.

The Clintons paid $33,783,507 in federal taxes – 31% of their adjusted gross income. According to the most recent data available from the IRS, in 2005 taxpayers earning $10,000,000 or more paid on average 20.8% of their adjusted gross income in taxes,” the campaign said.

The couple donated $10,256,741 to charity – 9.5% of their adjusted gross income. According to the most recent data available from the IRS, in 2005 taxpayers earning $10,000,000 or more contributed 3.1% of their adjusted gross income in cash contributions to charity,” the campaign said.

Both Clintons have done well as authors. During the years, former President Clinton earned more than $29 million for his books and Sen. Hillary Clinton earned more than $10 million.

Bill Clinton earned more than $51 million from speeches, the campaign said.
