Animal lovers’ anti-Romney ‘super PAC’ aims to publicize dog tale

Headed by a prominent Democratic contributor, a new “super PAC” called “Animal Lovers Against Romney” will move forward with a single purpose: publicizing the story of Mitt Romney and how he treated his dog, Seamus.

Bob McDevitt, the leader of the operation, has officially filed for the PAC’s creation, which already has a website and a $1-million budget.

“Mitt is a mean dude. If Romney treats his own pet like this, how do you think he’ll treat you?” the site’s homepage asks. “Romney has already made it clear that he doesn’t care about the cares and concerns of poor people and working families.”

The issue of Romney’s alleged callousness toward Seamus stems from a much-publicized trip the Romney family took to Canada in 1983. With no room in the family station wagon, Romney placed Seamus in a kennel, which he strapped to the roof of the car for most of the 12-hour trip.

At one point, after Seamus defecated inside the crate, Romney stopped and hosed him down before putting the kennel back on top of the car. Romney has adamantly denied any cruelty since the Boston Globe broke the story in 2007, asserting that Seamus enjoyed the journey.

As if the site’s domain, www.MittisMean.org, wasn’t a clear enough indication of the super PAC’s intentions, Animal Lovers Against Romney will focus on online advertising campaigns to be run in 10 battleground states.
