Jon Huntsman’s fundraising take so far: $4.1 million

Share

Jon Huntsman Jr., the former ambassador to China who recently announced his candidacy for president, has raised $4.1 million, a campaign official says.

An unspecified amount comes from funds that Huntsman contributed himself, the official said, adding only that Huntsman donated less than half of the total.

Because Huntsman has filed his official notice of candidacy later than others in the race, the details will not be reported to the Federal Election Commission until after the FEC third-quarter reporting period ends Sept. 30.

The late report of such large donations is the latest turn in his unorthodox candidacy. All other announced candidates in the race are expected to file details of funds raised and spent through June 30. Those reports will be released by July 15.

The former Utah governor declared his intention to run for the GOP presidential nomination in New Jersey on June 21, but did not file a formal statement of candidacy until June 28. The later date allows him to avoid the June 30 reporting deadline, the official said.
