What is this? The Primary Tracker follows the major parties' 2008 nominating process, showing how they select the delegates who will choose their eventual nominees for president. It also illustrates the effect of states' jockeying to be among the first to hold presidential contests: a primary season that starts earlier and culminates faster than any in history.
Why don't the pie charts total 100% when all states' contests are completed? A small number of delegates come from U.S. territories and citizens living abroad, and are not represented on the map or the timeline.
Will you track candidates' progress during the primary season? As the primary season progresses, we will show who's ahead overall, based on new delegate totals after each contest.
Note: An earlier version of the Primary Tracker included Democratic superdelegates in the delegate totals for each state and date. Because superdelegates are not bound by the results of state contests, they should not be included in the tallies of delegates allocated by primaries and caucuses. For a view of how superdelegates affect the Democratic nominating process, visit our delegate calculator.

1. I think the race to the White House is between 2 people - Senators Obama and Clinton and the Republicans just do not have a dog in the hunt. Let them run. This is the election folks. Stop telling her to quit - she won't. Sexism and racism in our politics is over the top - let these two Senators run. This is democracy - this is what we fight for. This is our way of life so chill out and let them speak, let all the primary states have a say this time. I have seen a hijacked election and this is not going to be one. Let the people in Oregon and West Virginia and Kentucky all the people in America that want to vote have a say.

2. I have always vote Rep but we need a change. None of the candidates are ideal; however, I will vote Clinton in Nov if she gets there. I WILL NOT vote Obama and I don't care to see another Rep in office. I see a lot of people with my views...especially here in Texas. I wish the superdelegates would pay attention.

3. Attention, Attention to all you Obama haters. We have had one of the worst months, any politician can have and where still here. Hillary continues to ask the question can he take it ? Well you just got your answer. The last card in your deck was trying to win the total vote, well that ship has now left the dock. I know it would be to much to ask you to have some class and stop this mess, so go ahead Hillary when this is all over people will really see you for who you are. All about the Clintons, always has been and always will be. Go Ahead Hillary March On
