Opening of new hospital delayed

Share

The opening for the new Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center has been postponed to Nov. 7.

The hospital had been scheduled to open the 600-bed inpatient facility Oct. 17, but October is a “very challenging time” for both state inspectors and the hospital, in part because of the Jewish holidays celebrated this month, said Pete Delgado, the hospital’s chief executive.

“This is a welcome change. This gives a little more time just to make sure all our systems are working properly,” Delgado said.

The inpatient hospital will undergo a state inspection Oct. 21-23.

County-USC is going ahead with plans for a ribbon cutting ceremony and public tours at 10 a.m. Saturday. The new facility is at 1200 N. State St., next door to the old hospital.
