Son of Harvest Christian Fellowship leader killed in crash

Christopher Laurie, the son of Harvest Christian Fellowship leader Greg Laurie, died Thursday in an auto accident in Riverside County, the church announced Thursday.

The accident occurred about 9 a.m. on the eastbound Riverside Freeway near Serfas Club Drive in Corona.

Laurie’s station wagon collided with a Caltrans truck involved in roadwork in the carpool lane.

Authorities were still piecing together exactly how the accident occurred.

Laurie, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laurie, of Huntington Beach, served as the art director at Harvest Christian Fellowship, sponsor of the popular Harvest Crusade, for the last three years. According to the church, he is survived by his parents; his wife, Brittany, and daughter, Stella; and his brother, Jonathan.

As news of Laurie’s death spread Thursday, a comment board set up by Harvest Christian filled with more than 2,000 postings, many offering support and prayers for the Laurie family.

“My family and I are praying for you and your family. We too share in your loss,” one poster wrote. “We have been attending Harvest for over seventeen years and you’ve shared your life with us. We love you all and will be praying that God comforts all of you during this time. God Bless you and your family.”

Greg Laurie is a popular evangelist who has written several books and is known for his television appearances and his large “Harvest Crusade” outreach festivals.

Christopher Laurie was expecting another daughter in November, church officials said.
