  • self righteousness is the right of the youth. or isn't it a crucial part of being a teenager, to stand up for something utterly ridicolous and extreme only to be totally and absolutely embarrassed later in life? some choose bands, others prefer fashion, bad haircuts, religion or politics to be different, special or cool. I have a friend who can shake up the most boring party by telling stories about her religious year when she was determined to become a modern saint at the age of 16.

  • I teach a course called Freshman Studies. I saw the article a few weeks ago about men and abortion. I cut out the article and asked my students to analyze it from several points of view. They had to do 4 things: make an outline of what they were going to write, create a rough draft, get written feedback from another student, and write the final paper. At the end of the exercise, they could read what they had written to the class. A few students indicated that they were re-thinking their position on abortion. Thanks for writing about this topic. I do not indoctrinate my students but make them write and think about issues.

  • I never expected someone so young to be so focused on going backwards, rather than going forwards. People have the right to NOT believe in abortion, however, they do not have the right to prevent others from attaining one. So many unwanted children are brought into this earth and are ultimately inpoverished. Those who say ADOPTION is the logical choice are deranged: what about the trauma the female body experiences during pregnancy? What about the lack of competance in America's current foster and adoption systems? Please, people, GET YOUR RELIGION OFF MY BODY AND AWAY FROM MY GOVERNMENT.

  • Young women are savvy enough to understand that the primary weapon of those who claim no significant problem with the idea of killing unborn children is their self-serving and self-given label: pro-choice. Euphemism at its ugliest. And yet even the most ardent pro-choicer would probably call the actions of Nazi Germany when it turned on the ovens (after closing the doors) and gassed its Jews as exactly what it was: pure evil. Are those millions of unseen saline injections in our country, albeit legal, any different in essence?

  • Anne assumes that Christian parents will kick their daughters out if they get pregnant. This is so unfair and prejudiced. I know of a family where the father cried for a week when his youngest daughter got pregnant. Then he dried his eyes and got help for his daughter. The mother takes care of the baby to let her daughter finish high school.

  • We are not teaching the history of why abortion became legal in the first place. It was because too many women were dying from back alley abortion techniques. Why were they having abortions? Because they couldn't afford to care for another baby. Why did they become pregnant? Because love is a human condition. Accidental pregnancy happens all the time. Even with birth control. I wonder how many of us are accidents? How many of us really planned for our families? Lets all really be caring and not judge others for their decisions. We should be grateful for the choices!

  • and ps thank the lord--that whole notion of birth control being deliberately made ineffective so as to increase abortions is nonsense, a result of misquoting and manipulation of statistics by right ot life organizations.

  • The deciding factor in Roe v Wade was the approximately 50,000 women per year killed by back alley abortions, plus the many thousands more who had their health and their ability to care for their existing children severely compromised. I never hear those facts brought up in any modern discussion of the issue. It's interesting that now, when the strain human population is putting on the planet has become obvious, that there should be a mass movement devoted to not only ending abortion, but also getting rid of birth control.

  • A fetus is not human but regardless. THE RIGHT TO LIFE DOES NOT TRUMP THE RIGHT OF PERSONAL CHOICE. If I needed a kidney, and would die without one, the government can not force someone to give me their kidney, it is their choice. My right to live does not trump their rights of their body.

  • To Ms. Spillman, Please check your facts, suicide rates among woman gone down since Roe v Wade. Please stop speading lies.
