2008 Mustang Bullitt

Do you agree that Steve McQueen is a good source of inspiration for the new Mustang?

  • I'm a fan of Mr. McQueen, but it wasn't until I read this article that I realized how saturated we are with his image lately. This month's Esquire magazine, for instance, has a section devoted to showcasing various garbs on a McQueen manequin. Can't say I mind, though. The man was authentic and that quality, in today's society, is a rare commodity.

  • Ryan, the 01 Bullitt didnt come with a Shaker Hood. Maybe youre thinking about the Mach 1?

  • The McQueen thing doesn't do anything for me. The de-badged look of the car really appeals to me. A lot of the original Mustang qualities, a peppy, attractive car that is a lot of fun to drive. Nothing like the sound of a V8.

  • BartF - Dan Neil is a Pulitzer prize winning writer. Pay some respect where respect is due. Some of us read the LA Times to expand our vocabulary. God help us when they start changing their writing style for the likes of readers like you. Kiss my bumper.

  • ...it's just another, not very imaginative riff on the Ford Mustang GT, aimed at goobers who've got it so bad for Steve they can't help themselves. That's some funny writing. McQueen mania is running rampant, indeed. As a straight male, I find it hard to stare at him too long without questioning my manhood. That's why I'll keep commandeering my Hemi 5.7 liter Durango.

  • I don't care about the "Bullit" connection. I'd like the car as an upgrade to the GT in a different color. It could also use a better interior. My cousin's unmodified Mustang GT eats $50K+ tuner cars alive and he laughs at them while he's doing it. If you don't like this type of vehicle, tough, don't buy one. More for us.

  • I would like to know when BMW is going to sell a nice chestnut brown Mini cooper(with a turtle neck sweater and brown tweed jacket draped over the passenger seat!) to go along with my new Bullitt Mustang! McQueen was real racer simple as that, his Canyon racing stories a urban legends!

  • Ha! Not that I didn't like McQueen but the day after seeing that movie I went out and bought a 1969 Dodge Charger - 440. Black of course. I now own a black Hemi Magnum - fair replacement in nostalge value.

  • Your photo of the Bullitt is the best I have seen. Perfect angle and setting.
