Woman’s body found wrapped in blanket in Burbank alley; son held
A Burbank man was arrested on suspicion of killing his 76-year-old mother, whose body was found in an alley wrapped in a blanket, police said Monday night.
Officers responded Monday morning to call of a possible woman down in the alley near the 4000 block of Victory Boulevard, the Burbank Police Department said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.

He said the slaying was Burbank’s first homicide of 2014. The cause of death is pending an autopsy by the coroner’s office.
“We want to assure the community that this is not a random act of violence,” Ryburn said.
Since January 2007, there have been four other reported homicides within a mile of where the woman’s body was found, according to the The Times Homicide Report database. [Note: an earlier version of this story incorrectly gave the number as two, based on an incorrect address,)
On Monday, officers arrested Moises Diaz, 40, in connection with the killing.
Police said Diaz lived with his mother. Her name was not released because police said they were still informing relatives. He was being held at the Burbank jail in lieu of $1-million bail.
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the alley between 6 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday is asked to call police at (818) 238-3210.
