How would you evaluate Congress’ oversight during the Iraq war? Discuss round one of this week's Dust-Up.

I think that this war revealed a glaring error in the design of the founding fathers. This error is making the President Comander and Chief.
Few presidents have served at the upper levels of military. And, for many reasons this probably a good thing.
But most presidents don't have any where near the kind of training needed to run a military. Being a winning military leaders also seems dependent on inherenit qualities that can not be changed.
Bush's greatest sin Iraq was incompetence. As things are now there is nothing the nation can do when faced with an incompetent military leader. We must change this.
2. There is nothing worse than a "military mind" in the arena of politics. Politics and Statemanship is at a level far above the level of the abilities of ANY "military mind". The civilian authority is, and must be, above, over, and vigilent of the aspirations of the "military mind". Otherwise we all wind up subservient to some nutcase riding a horse.
3. Congress should leave the military alone. Politicians today are mostly self serving policticial idealoges, and can not be trusted to make a decision that is good for the country.
4. Once congress has agreed to a war should stay out of it until it is over.
5. Ordinarily, the military should be led by military commanders. But the commanders now are all boot-lickers, butt-kissers, and incompetent. The "surge" is a failure by all rational criteria. The Bush administration got rid of every officer with half-a-brain, replaced them with "yes" men. This is my opinion, and that of professional soldiers I know.
6. Congress should control this out of control invasion. Remember, you can not physically win a "war on terror", and our military is not intelligent enough to do so. In Five years, we've accomplished so little that Congress can dictate what happens to soldiers. Otherwise soldiers will continue to die for nothing for a hundred years.
7. I think our military should be prepared and equipped to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. Congress should authorize the use of military force and then let the experts do their job. Congress should I have more oversight on intellegence (CIA), which predates the step of conducting military actions.
