Images from NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander

COULD THIS BE ICE? NASA scientists say that's very possible. The photo shows a smooth white surface cleared of overlying soil by rocket exhaust as Phoenix landed. In any case, even if this is only a deposit of salt called kieserite, researchers believe ice deposits lie just inches below.
