Crescenta Valley Briefs: Judging underway for La Crescenta photo contest; Expanded library hours

Judging is underway for a photo competition called “Discover La Crescenta: Photography Contest.”

Hosted by the La Crescenta Library, the competition is being judged by the public through Saturday.

The contest consists of three categories — children under age 11; teens, ages 12 to 18, and adults. Contest rules require that photographs depict La Crescenta.

There will be three winners in each category. Points will determine first-, second- and third-place winners.

The contest will culminate with an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

The library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual installation luncheon at 11 a.m. next Thursday at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive, La Cañada Flintridge.

At the event, new officers and directors will be installed and outgoing officers and directors will be honored. Also, the Mary Pinola/Crescenta Valley Chamber Educational Endowment funds will be distributed to several local schools and organizations.

The Crescenta Valley Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. next Thursday in the community room of the La Crescenta Valley Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.

At the meeting, the Crescenta Valley High School varsity football team, which recently won the CIF championship, will be honored.

The next cleanup day at Crescenta Commons will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Jan. 17.

Crescenta Commons is located on the corner of Rosemont and Orange avenues.

Volunteers will pull weeds, pick up trash and work to keep the site clean and beautiful.

The La Crescenta Library is now open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays, thanks to additional funding from L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich.
