Crescenta Valley Crime: Stove, dishwasher stolen in residential burglary

July 5

Grand theft, unlocked vehicle: 200 block of Foothill Boulevard. A man reported that sometime between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. that day, someone opened the trunk of his unlocked 2013 Kia Optima and took a backpack containing a MacBook Pro laptop and several computer hard drives, in addition to a checkbook, two pairs of prescription glasses and two pairs of headphones. His car had been parked by a football field but was unlocked. No prints could be taken, as the trunk latch was made of rubber, and no witnesses could be located.

July 6

Vehicle tampering: 300 block of San Juan Way. A man told police that sometime between 5 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday someone entered his unlocked 2007 Honda Pilot and rifled through it as it was parked in the driveway. No items were taken, but the victim said the suspect left a pair of black sunglasses and a black leather case on his driver’s seat. No fingerprints could be obtained, as the case had been handled by too many people before being placed into custody, but the case was booked into evidence.

July 7

Burglary, residence: 4100 block of Encinas Drive. Someone entered a locked, vacant home that was listed for sale, making off with a stove and a dishwasher sometime between Thursday, July 3 and Monday, July 7. The victim said the last people in the home were some contractors who were installing wood flooring. When contacted by deputies, the contractors said they’d locked the house behind them on Thursday. When they returned on Monday and saw the appliances were missing, they immediately contacted the homeowner. The point of entry was determined to be a locked first-floor window, which had its screen removed. Tire tracks were left in the garage, and footprints and damage to the floorboards were observed inside the home. Fingerprints were ordered, but no witnesses could be located.

July 3

Vandalism, residence: 2800 block of Community Avenue. A woman reported that sometime between 8 p.m. the night before and 8 a.m. July 3, someone smashed the flowers in her backyard flower bed and damaged a miniature street-sign yard decoration. The victim had just planted the flowers the day before. She had already replaced the damaged flowers, but showed deputies the street sign. She said she suspects her next-door neighbor committed the crime, as they are involved in an ongoing dispute. Officers tried several times to talk to the neighbor, but no one answered.

July 5

Petty theft: 5000 block of Ramsdell Avenue. A woman called the sheriff’s station to report that when she came home at 5 p.m. that day, her mailbox was missing. When asked if she knew of any reason why it was missing, she replied, “It’s been there 20 years, we’ve never had problems.” Only the metal box was missing; the post was still standing.

July 9

Vandalism: 4400 block of Ocean View Boulevard. A man reported that on July 1, sometime between 4 and 11 p.m., someone sprayed an unknown substance on the front driver’s side door of his 2000 Chevy Suburban. The substance appeared to have eaten away the vehicle’s clear coat and had damaged its paint job, but the victim waited to contact law enforcement to see if he could buff away the spot. Officers photographed the damage and booked the photos into evidence.
