Here are the names of two chemicals you may want to remember: Oxybenzone and Retinyl Palmitate.

WDBJ 7 first reported on them two weeks ago, after a research group said sunscreens containing them may be dangerous to your health.

According to research done by the Environmental Working Group, Oxybenzone and Retinyl Palmitate could cause tumors.

Oxybenzone is one of the most common ingredients in sunscreen and Retinyl Palmitate is a type of Vitamin A.

We searched through many different brands of sun block and couldn’t find any without one or the other ingredients.

Dr. Steve Osborn is a family practitioner at Doctors Express. He says even though the research is limited, it’s probably best to avoid both ingredients in general. "The research has been done with animals, so we don't have any human studies necessarily, it’s not conclusive,” explained Osborn.

Besides avoiding sunscreens with Oxybenzone and Retinyl Palmitate, doctors also suggest "Broad Spectrum", this will protect against both types of ultraviolet radiation: UVA and UVB.

Osborn recommends avoiding spray-on sunscreen because you can inhale it.

Since it's difficult, and maybe impossible, to find sun block without Oxybenzone and Retinyl Palmitate, he says the best way to protect yourself against the sun, is in the shade.
