Does government help or hurt economic development?  That's a question business leaders in Bedford worked to tackle Wednesday afternoon with the help of a congressman.

Robert Hurt represents the fifth district, which includes Bedford County.

The Bedford area is seeing lots of job growth, but county leaders believe more companies could prosper if certain government regulations didn't exist.

Hurt says he'll push for legislation that makes it easier for businesses to succeed.

"This today has been very helpful to me, hearing from businesses," says Hurt.  "Hearing about over regulation and the burdens they face."

Hurt is spending the week visiting towns around the 5th district, meeting with local leaders before heading back to Washington for work on the federal budget.
