The death of a six month old baby girl from Axton is being investigated.

Deputies were called to a home along Mountain Valley Road and found a family member giving the child CPR.  She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators say at this time, the death does not seem suspicious.

On December 6, 2012 at approximately 4:06 p.m. the Martinsville/Henry County Communications Center received a call of an infant who was unresponsive.

Deputies responded to Mountain Valley Road Axton, VA and found a 6 month old child who was not breathing.

A family member performed CPR until being relieved by members of Stone Ambulance.

The infant was transported to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia on December 7, 2012.  The investigation is continuing.
