There's concern this year's the Fourth of July could go up in a bang. The men and women who work for Virginia's Forestry Department are particularly worried because it is so dry and so hot.
As of Thursday afternoon, the rainfall deficits looked like this:
Salem is down 1.5"
Danville is down 5.5".
Lynchburg is down 3.5"
Forestry officials say the last time a firecracker ignited a large fire was about 2 or 3 years ago when a man in Craig County was shooting of fireworks in an open field. The next thing he knew, about 100 acres burned.
