They're passionate about their hobby and in emergency situations, they can make the difference between life and death.
Today amateur radio operators, also known as "hams", took part in "Hamfest” at William Byrd High School in Vinton. The event gives the ham radio enthusiasts a chance to buy part and accessories needed to operate their radios. Hamfest was sponsored by the Roanoke Valley Amateur Radio Club. We spoke with Jerry Haislip who is a member. The Roanoke Valley Amateur Radio Club will be conducting training classes soon.
