The ODAC Softball Tournament continued Saturday afternoon at the Moyer Complex in Salem. Roanoke College was eliminated with an 8-1 loss to Bridgewater in the morning.
But second-seeded Lynchburg College was still alive, playing in the winners bracket against top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan.
The Marlins with a 5-0 lead in the 4th. Lynchburg having trouble against their starter MacKenzie Creech. Amber Ingram gets on base with just their second hit of the game.
Ingram makes move to get into scoring position stealing second, but she would be stranded. The Hornets left 9 on base in the game.
In the bottom half, check out this grab from Nicole Riley at short. They all think it's a catch, but the umpires feel differently and Tori Higginbothem is safe on first.
That's a crucial call because just a few batters later, Kelly Keys rips one to left center, driving-in Higginbothem and giving the Marlins the 6- nothing lead.
In the 6th, Cassie Phillips tries to get a rally started with one of her team's just 4 hits in the game, but no one can bring her home.
Virginia Wesleyan goes-on to win 7-1. The Marlins advance to Sunday's championship game while the Hornets drop to the losers bracket.
