HALIFAX CO., Va.—A Halifax County bridge has been closed after failing an inspection by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The bridge is over the railroad on Route 724 in the Scottsburg part of the county.
According to VDOT, the bridge previously was posted with a three-ton weight limit.
It's unclear how long the bridge will be closed for.

The bridge over the railroad on Route 724, Drybridge Road in the Scottsburg area of Halifax County has been closed to all traffic.
The bridge was closed as a result of conditions found during a regularly scheduled inspection today and detour signs have been put in place. The structure had previously been posted with a three-ton weight limit.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the bridge owner, Norfolk-Southern Rail, will meet to discuss a future course of action. No timeframe for the closure is currently available.
