BRONX, N.Y. (WPIX)—A terrifying fire in the Bronx left two people seriously injured, after flames erupted at a housing project.
Firefighters responded to a call just before 7 p.m. Saturday at 1086 Watson Ave in the Bronx River Section.
Two residents were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with serious burn injuries.
Justin Morales, who lives on the fourth floor, says he saw his neighbor being brought out on a stretcher: "He had burns on his face, his arm and on his lower stomach. You can tell he was actually in the apartment while it was still burning."
Fire Chief Paul Mannix said the fire was contained to one fifth-floor apartment. Two people had been inside at the time.
"One jumped from the window before our arrival and the other one was found by firefighters inside the apartment," Mannix said.
One firefighter was also treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
