MORRIS HEIGHTS, THE BRONX (WPIX)—An NYPD officer is recovering Thursday after getting shot in the chest while breaking up a robbery around 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Twenty-seven-year-old Ivan Marcano was off-duty last night when he was driving with his girlfriend down Harrison Avenue in the Bronx. They spotted a robbery taking place outside, that's when Marcano told his girlfriend to call 911 while he jumped out with his police gun in hand.
Marcano, a five-year NYPD officer, jumped back in the car to head to he hospital before he saw the suspect's vehicle a block down the street. Marcano once again jumped out and fired a shot at one of the men, hitting him in the head and killing him. He attempted to chase down the other two men before finding a nearby ambulance and going to the hospital where ge is currently in stable condition.
Police say they questioned several men in connection with the robbery, but the suspects are still on the loose. Now a $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information on this case.
