NORWOOD, N.Y. (WPIX)—Fire officials are investigating the cause of a massive 5-alarm fire that gutted a row of stores in the Norwood section of the Bronx early Monday.
The blaze broke out in the basement of the American Diner, located on East 204th Street near Bainbridge Avenue some time after 4:30 a.m. and quickly spread to a neighboring supermarket, officials said.
Nearly 200 firefighters responded to the scene and were able to contain the blaze about two hour after it was reported.
In addition to the diner and supermarket, a dental office was also destroyed in the early morning fire.
Two firefighters were reportedly injured while battling the blaze.
The investigation is ongoing.
