MANORVILLE, NY—A brush fire broke out in Manorville causing at least 25 homes and a daycare in the town of Brookhaven to evacuate.
Smoke from Long Island could be seen from miles away, and around 1:40 p.m. 30 fire departments in Suffolk and Nassau Counties have responded to the fire near North Street and Weeks Avenue.
Firefighters have managed to contain the blaze. No injuries have been reported. The fire is not having any effect on traffic on the Long Island Expressway.
The brush fire is in the Long Island Pine Barrens, south of where last week's wildfire burned through 1,100 acres. Shelter for the homes evacuated east of Weeks Road and Douglas, Victoria, Calender and Oak Streets is located at the Manorville Fire Department headquarters (16 Silas Carter Road).
