It's a place where ex-cons and suspects check in to get their personal belongings after they get out of jail.

The NYPD plans to move the property clerk's office to 11 Front Street at the end of the year, right under the Brooklyn Bridge in a neighborhood best known as a major tourist attraction and mecca for well-heeled artist types.

"Horrible idea. It's scary," said mother of two Sandra Jamieson, who lives in DUMBO.

The office would be steps away from the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Grimaldi's Pizza, and a new school.

"No one told my office," said Councilman Steve Levin. "We want them to reconsider the location."

The NYPD told PIX11 News the current site at Gold Street is overcrowded and they needed a place that is closer to the Brooklyn courts, which sit .

"It's not really near pubic transportation. It's no next to the subway and the courts are downtown," said Levin.

"I hope they don't move here," said Jamieson, walking by with her two children on their way to the park.
