Police were dispatched to an apartment in Brighton Beach where a 19-year-old woman said she had been kidnapped and raped by her ex-boyfriend. Over the next several hours, police apparently attempted to get 20-year-old Samuel White to surrender and leave the apartment.
But to no avail.
When four officers entered the apartment, the suspect reportedly lunged at them with the knife. One officer - armed with a taser gun - fired at White, but it apparently did little to subdue him.
Police say another officer fired a taser shot at White but again - the suspect - lunged at them with the knife and this time stabbed an officer in his bulletproof vest.
Two officers then reportedly fired five shots at White. It's unclear how many times White was hit.
White was rushed to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to published reports, White was locked up last month on charges of assaulting and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend.
