Though in the grip of grief, Kyanna Thomas' mother Ada Presley stepped forward at a packed candelight prayer vigil in Brooklyn Tuesday night demanding justice for her murdered 16-year-old daughter and pleading that her daufghter's killer be caught.
Ada Presley told those gathered before her: "I've received over a million condolences and everyone asks me, 'is there anything I can do?' The only thing I want this community to do is help me find who killed my daughter."
Kyanna's distraught cousin Khalia Ruiz spoke Tuesday night as well, telling the crowd: "I just want somebody to give this family closure by coming out and speaking -- letting us know who did this to our cousin. I was with her the night before ... I want somebody to feel the pain that we're feeling."
Hundreds of family, friends, co-workers and community members filled the streets just steps away from the corner in the Ocean Hill-Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood where 16-year-old Kyanna Thomas was savagely murdered by a knife-wielding killer. The community gathered to honor Kyanna's memory and to plead for her killer to turn himself in.
The emotional evening ended with a release of sixteen white and pink balloons symbolizing Kyanna's spirit moving on.
Kyanna herself may have called 9-1-1. She was taken by ambulance to nearby Interfaith Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to published reports, police are zeroing in on Kyanna's possible killer who is possibly a former acquaintance who'd recently sent threatening text
