NEW YORK (PIX11)—New York State Sen. Carl Kruger pleaded guilty Tuesday to four criminal counts an influence peddling case.
Kruger, who broke down in tears during his plea before a Manhattan federal court judge, is accused of unfairly helping a developer, a lobbyist and two hospital executives in the apparent bribery scheme.
Before his court appearance, the 62-year-old lawmaker submitted his resignation letter, described as a single-sentence statement, to the Senate's Republican majority.
Kruger represented District 27 in the New York State Senate, which comprises Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Gravesend, Bergen Beach, Mill Basin, and Midwood, among other neighborhoods found within his native Brooklyn.
Earlier this year in March, Kruger surrendered to authorities on bribery charges.
