She entered her plea from a hospital room where she is still recovering from stab wounds to the neck that she self-inflicted after allegedly killing the two kids.
"Yoselyn Ortega is charged with taking the lives of two innocent children who were incapable of defending themselves," Vance said in a statement. "This crime shocked and horrified parents around the city, many of whom entrust their children to the care of others both by necessity and by choice. My heart goes out to the family of those beautiful young children, and I hope that, with time, this family will heal."
Ortega stabbed Lucia Krim, 6, and Leo Krim, 2, inside the family's bathroom at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25, where the children's mother discovered the horrific scene. The nanny then stabbed herself in the neck in front of the mother, Marina Krim. Ortega had worked for the family for two years.
