READING—An infant has died two days after being struck in the head by a bullet fragment that came from the floor above him inside a Pennsylvania home, authorities said. Reading police were searching for the man who allegedly fired the weapon and had not filed any charges in the death of seven-week-old Michael Johnson. The boy's mother, 20-year-old Ebony Sanders, told police she was on the second floor with the man Sunday evening when the gun went off accidentally, the Reading Eagle reported. The infant was in a stroller downstairs.
"Nobody seems to know how that happened," Sgt. Jeff Parr said Wednesday.
Parr declined to say if the gun was recovered.
The infant was airlifted to Hershey Medical Center, where he died Tuesday night.
The man whose gun went off fled afterward. He is not the baby's father or Sander's boyfriend, authorities said.
Reading is about 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
